 Sonam Kapoor (born June 9, 1985) is an upcoming Indian film actress. She is the daughter of Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor. Her uncles are producer Boney Kapoor and actor Sanjay Kapoor.

 Sonam Kapoor is the elder daughter of actor Anil Kapoor.She is the eldest of three children; the others are sister Rhea Kapoor and brother Harshvardhan.Sonam studied in Mumbai at the Arya Vidya Mandir school in Juhu.She went on to study Theater Arts and Chinese History at the United World College of East Asia. She is also a major in Political Science and Economics, courtesy Bombay University.She speaks English, Hindi and Punjabi, and is a trained dancer.

 Sonam was launched in 'Saawariya' opposite Ranbir Kapoor.'Delhi 6'was Sonam Kapoor’s next release, which too bombed at the BO. She has been chosen as the face of L'oreal. Sonam has Kapoor has recently signed David Dhawan's comedy film 'Come On Pappu', in which she is paired with Akshay Kumar.

 Before starting her career off as an actress, Sonam Kapoor worked as an assistant under Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and assisted him during the making of his film, Black (2005). She was nominated has Film Fare Best Female Debut Award for the movie Saawariya. She is also working on I Hate Luv Storys with Imran Khan.The film went on to become her first box office success.She also appeared in the romantic comedy, Aisha, opposite Abhay Deol.

 SONAM is rumoured to be dating MTV VJ Cyrus Sahukar, who was part of the movie, Delhi 6.She assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the sets of Black in 2005.

 Sonam Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone burst onto the Bollywood scene just about the same time with one another in 2007, with the Kapoors (no relation here) starring in their first feature film together in Saawariya. Sonam Kapoor steps into the role as the romantic matchmaker wannabe who, as the idle daughter of a rich man in Delhi, takes it upon herself to be a Ms Fixit, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. Not hers of course, but that of her friends and family.





 With best friend Pinky (Ira Dubey), Aisha takes it upon herself to transform plain Jane Sheali (Amrita Puri) into an air-head femme fatale, and just about as confused as Aisha herself is.The movie ends in a good note with everyone finding their love.

 Sonam was launched in 2007 in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, where she played the leading lady Sakina, opposite Ranbir Kapoor. She was nominated for the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award, though the movie did not live up to the hype. Her second release was Delhi 6 with Abhishek Bachchan. The movie did not do as well as expected. But Sonam stole the show with her dilli-waali look and the ‘Masakalli’ number.In 2010, she will be seen in her father’s production, Aisha, with Abhay Deol. It is based on Jane Austen’s Emma.

 Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, who turned 24 recently, says she always wanted to be a star and not just another actor. “For me, stardom is a new and novel experience… it’s lovely. That’s why I became a film actor… I wanted that… I wanted to act and be something. If I only wanted to be an actor, I would have done theatre. But I actually wanted to be a star and I make no bones about that,” Sonam told IANS in an interview here.Sonam, who made her Bollywood debut in 2007 with “Saawariya” and later featured in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s “Delhi 6″, says stardom definitely brings more pressure but she knows how to manage it. 

 “There is added pressure but I have been brought up in a way that I am extremely confident of who I am,” she said.The actress is also aware of the three-decade-old body of work her father Anil Kapoor carries behind him and says besides looking up to him for advice, she also takes due advantage of being his daughter.

 “My dad says he survived in the industry for 30 years because he didn’t concentrate on what people wanted him to do, but what he was convinced about. He was not part of the rat race and that’s what I am going to do – that’s what I have learnt from him.“I am not part of the rat race. I just want to do films. Having someone like him in my family is an advantage and I make complete use of the fact.

 Sonam is at the ongoing International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards for her first stage performance and says she is extremely nervous.“I am nervous. I have butterflies in my stomach that are going all the way up to my head. The dress that I am wearing is very elaborate. It’s by Anamika Khanna and is pink, red and black in colour and has a lot of glitter and sequins like most show outfits. I hope the outfit stays. But I am excited as well,” she said.
